What’s up

768 432 Southlandmusos

Gidday mate. It’s going off big time at the musos club, with a swag of cool stuff happening.

Next week we’ve got Guitar Legends. Check out the story in today’s Express for more details.

In breaking news we’ve locked in a date for the ILT Southland Entertainment Awards. Because of Covid we’re giving it a break this year and it will be coming back with a reboot in 2022. Save the date, people: April 8, 2022. It’s going to have a new look, a new format and a new venue – the Ascot Park Hotel. Very, very exciting.

More exciting news. The Southland Musicians Club website is near completion. We’re aiming for a launch next month. Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, check out our Facebook page for the current offering of gigs.

May 8: FOTA. Radical, musical, melodic, and energetic alt rock with a hard, punky edge. They’re unique, confrontational, and uber entertaining. With Russian Blue and Person Will.Omaj. Just a tenner on the door, and $5 for students.

May 9: Dan Sharp. A touring singer/songwriter based out of Katikati. Check out the event on our Facebook page to secure tickets for this intimate gig.

May 20: David and Shimna. An award-winning folk duo, with a beautiful sound and fans all over the planet. Check them out. Tickets on

May 23: Cathcart/Walsh/Blaikie. A tight, funky, country-blues band from Christchurch, who worship the groove. Doors open 5pm. Just $15 on the door.

June 11: Get FOLKed! An evening of traditional, contemporary and original folk music performed by local artists.  This is an open mic event, so if you’re keen to get up and have a craic (see what I did there?) you can direct message the gals at Get FOLKed! Find them on Facebook. Bar open but bring your own nibbles. Doors open at 6.30pm. Entry is by koha/gold coin.

The Rhythm Lounge venue at the Southland Musicians Club is also available for private hire when it’s not being used to entertain the masses. Contact el presidente, Trevor Daley, on 027 733 6959 for details.

And remember, whānau, to follow the Southland Musicians Club on Facebook to stay up to date.

Talk again real soon.
