In the late 1980s, Pretty Wicked Head and the Desperate Men were the standard-bearers for Southland original music, touring nationally and internationally relentlessly and fearlessly for five hard years.
They showed the next generations of Southland original musicians that it was possible to stake a claim from here at the bottom of the world, and they remain to this day the only Invercargill band to be signed to an international record label while still based in Southland.
Here’s a video of Pretty Wicked and the Desperate Men when they were awarded the Graham Williamson X Factor Cars Legacy Award for lifetime achievement at the ILT Southland Entertainment Awards.
