Viva el Presidente!

At the Southland Musicians Club’s AGM club president Trevor Daley (pictured) was returned to the position, unopposed, just like he has been every year since he was first elected in 1976!

That’s an uninterrupted run of 45 years, and a mighty achievement in anybody’s history book.

How many other administrators in any role have given that much service to a voluntary organisation? Not many, if any, I’m betting.

Trev, as we like to call the boss behind his back, and sometimes to his face, was recognised in the 2015 Queens Birthday Honours when he was named a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

So cheers, Trev. You’re a bloody legend!

Gigs coming up at the club:

March 12: Get FOLKed! An evening of traditional, contemporary, and original folk music performed by local artists.  This is an open mic event, so if you’re keen to get up and have a craic (see what I did there?) you can direct message the gals at Get FOLKed! Find them on Facebook. Bar open but bring your own nibbles. Doors open at 6.30 pm. Entry is by koha/gold coin.

March 19: Russian Blue and Filth Wizard kick off their South Island tour back where it all started – Invervegas! Now based in Dunedin, Russian Blue will both delight and terrify with their experimental molten-sludge rock. Filth Wizard’s riff-filled instrumental tunes offer the perfect counterpart to Russian Blue. Joining them at the Rhythm Lounge are post-sludge outfit Slur. Doors open at 8.30 and it’s just 10 bucks on the door.

April 17: Metal Madness – more details next time.

April 22: Groove-heavy rockers Pull Down The Sun bring their Of Valleys and Mountains album release tour to the Rhythm Lounge, with ample assistance from Filth Wizard, Elidi, and Fall of Them. You can hunt down your tickets at https://www.cosmicticketing.co.nz/event/6337

Remember, whanau, to follow the Southland Musicians Club on Facebook to stay up to date.

The Rhythm Lounge venue at the Southland Musicians Club is also available for private hire when it’s not being used to entertain the masses. Contact Mr. President, Trevor Daley, on 027 733 6959 for details.
