Chris Chilton Southland Musicians Club Invercargill Southland

What’s up

768 432 Southlandmusos

Gidday groovers.

We hear feedback occasionally that some of you beautiful music people think that gigs and shows held at the musos club are only open to club members. This is certainly not the case.

Any gig we advertise publicly is open to all comers. All you have to do is buy a ticket – they’re usually sold by the bands online these days, and we try to help you out by posting a link on the Southland Musicians Club Facebook page.

So if you see promo for a show at the club that you think might be right up your alley, you are totally welcome to buy a ticket and come down to our venue, the Rhythm Lounge, at 33 Preston Street. Look for the big Southland Musicians Club sign on the fence.

The Rhythm Lounge is a licensed venue with a great vibe, great sound system and a great bar. The club runs the bar but the venue itself is open to the public. We’d love to see you, and so would the bands who play there.

Here’s what’s on offer at the musos club Rhythm Lounge in coming weeks.

July 1: Jordan Luck Band. Sold out, sorry folks.

July 9: Get FOLKed! An open mic evening of traditional, contemporary and original folk music performed by local artists.  If you’re keen to get up and have a craic you can direct message the gals at Get FOLKed! Find them on Facebook. Bar open but bring your own nibbles. Doors open at 6.30pm. Entry is by koha/gold coin.

July 10: Kennedy School of Music

July 11: Silver Notes Traditional Music Club. Singalong music, including country and traditional tunes. Anyone can join in. Visitors very welcome.

July 30: Invercargill Irish Society open mic night.

July 31: Southern Slaughter, featuring two of New Zealand’s hardest hitting death metal bands: Order of Diptera, purveying the dissonance, and Utilize the Remains bringing the slams. With support from Southland’s exceptional Filth Wizard. Tickets just $10 plus booking fee, available through Cosmic Ticketing, or $20 door sales available on the night. Doors open at 8:30pm with the first band on at 9pm. All shows R18.

August 29-September 1: Dinner and a show at our annual theatre-restaurant show. This one’s called The Final Countdown, with a science fiction theme. Tickets will be $45 and they’ll go on sale in a week or so at Little Fire Musicworks. This is always a fab night out. Start getting a group together and keep an eye on the Southland Musicians Club Facebook page for an event notification.

Remember that the Rhythm Lounge venue at the Southland Musicians Club is also available for private hire when it’s not being used to entertain the masses. We’re taking quite a few bookings for private functions. Contact the prez, Trevor Daley, on 027 733 6959 for details.

And remember, whānau, to follow the Southland Musicians Club on Facebook to stay up to date.

Talk again real soon.
